Welcome to another week of the Women’s Personal Finance Wednesdays roundup. I started this series after months of debate because I wasn’t certain I wanted to up the ante and commit to publishing three posts a week. However, now that I’ve started sharing these posts, I’m so glad I started.

There are so many fabulous women writing about personal finance online, and yet there is still a perception that women aren’t good with money, don’t care about money, or don’t understand it on a granular level beyond perhaps knowing how to coupon and score a good shopping deal. These roundups are my way of doing a small part to change that perception. There are no shortage of women online doing their part to make it clear that they DO understand money, and these posts are meant to amplify that fact.

The hardest part of this post every week always is narrowing it down to my favorites, because there is just so much good content out there. If you’re ever interested in what else I’m reading, I share quite a few other posts on Twitter (and that’s also where I read most of the content to begin with these days).

Our Women’s Personal Finance Facebook group also has a sharing thread on Fridays, and that’s the place to read all the blog posts written by members over the previous week. Women’s Personal Finance Wednesdays – Week 96

1. Financial Abuse: Understanding it and Overcoming it Partners In FIRE

“My ex-boyfriend would steal cash out of my wallet, and then he’d gaslight me about. Maybe I never had that twenty dollars in the first place, or maybe I spent it on something else and forgot. It’s also possible that I dropped it somewhere. Even though I’m generally good with money, and had never regularly lost cash like this before, I started questioning myself.”

This story is a personal one for Melanie, and one that is all too common, to varying degrees. If you or someone you know thinks they might be suffering from financial abuse, read this one. If not, this is one more reason I will always advocate for at least one account separate from your partner.

2. The Hardest Choice To Date… Our FI Nest

“So my choice comes down to: do I quit my job so my kids are safe, or hope they’ll be ok in this big science experiment that seems to going on at the moment. If we can avoid getting covid I’ll feel like we made the right choice to keep doing a job I love. If someone does get it and our health is forever changed I’m going to feel the ultimate guilt. Why didn’t I give it all up when I could have?”

It shouldn’t be this way. It shouldn’t be this way. Hard stop.

3. Update: August 2020 From One Geek To Another

“I’ve tried writing something so many times, but I ended up stuck every single time. What am I supposed to say?

When 2020 started everyone had high hopes. 2019 was a thing and we were looking for the new year to be a more positive time. Cue 2020 laughing maniacally at our naivety.”

I might still be writing, but only barely. I almost didn’t share this one thanks to the lovely things said about me in it, but it’s the vibe I think all of us bloggers are feeling right now. Wednesday posts happen because I want to highlight others and Friday posts happen because I want to document this wild year. Mondays…. well, sometimes they happen. No matter the blogger you talk to, I guarantee they’re slogging through mud to put out content this year.

I hope you enjoy the posts this week as much as I did. I read a ton of content and it was hard to narrow down my favorites. I’m looking forward to sharing some new ones with you again next week!
